Hi!

I am working on GnuSocialShell, a simple and free GnuSocial client write in C for UNIX-based Operating System. Today I have compiled it on Syllable 0.6.7 and it works! I have published a "hello work" status on my account:

"Hello GnuSocial from @gnusocialshell running on Syllable 0.6.7 Smile"

I needed to change some lines of code but now it works under Syllable.

Yes, you can do it by hand, but Builder can automate it to make it more standard.

I don't know how to make a Syllable package using Builder... Could you give me any link?

Also, I think I will check the development utilities package.

Thanks

Yes, this is in there, and in the documentation section on the development site:

Thanks, one more question:

If I copy the gnusocialshell binary to /usr/bin, how can I execute it when I type "gnusocialshell". I tried "chmod a+x /usr/bin/gnusocialshell" but don't work.

Thanks.

There is no /usr/bin/ on Syllable. You can use /system/programs/ for a quick result or /usr/local/bin/ for compatibility with standard sources, but if you make a standard Syllable package, it should all be in a separate folder, for example GNU-SocialShell/ and the programs should be in there in a sub-folder programs/. This is what Builder creates for you. Then you can register the package in the system's search paths with Packager.

I have created a Syllable section on GnuSocialShell's webpage.

PD: I am currently working on Syllable packages

@dalmemail: The big thing to remember about Syllable is the way it keeps all its programs in their own original directories. This is a nice thing, compared to the way Linux (and almost every other OS) heaps everything together in a big bad /usr/bin.

With this scheme, locating files would be arduous (lacking the benefit of the all-in-one big-bad-bin)! So, there is heavy use of symlinks, with linked index directories that have been created to implement the effect of the all-in-one directory for location purposes.

The symlinks will be in places like /usr/indexes. So, there will be a sort of phantom /usr/bin in /usr/indexes/bin, and you can compile programs using configurations like:

--prefix=/usr/indexes

Hope that helps.
