These ideas have been taken from the original POTM thread. Please vote for the one you would like to see the most, and post in this thread if you think you can help. The one with the most votes wins. Voting closes at the end of the month!

Maybe there should be an article about POTM in the front page to attract more people?

Good idea. I'll write a news item on the development site.

I voted for the FTP client, that's probably the one I would be able to help out with, I don't yet have enough knowledge of the code to help with the other ones Smile

(I'm reading though, dug up a copy of Modern Operating Systems (Tanenbaum) that I haven't read since uni)

"Port the RadeonHD driver" isn't in the poll!

How about putting the article about POTM in the main news page too? Maybe users are interested in it too, not only devs?

Well, it's really a development project, and in principle the people who vote should help to carry it out. If we put everything on the main site, it's not much use having a development-oriented site. Once PotM delivers a product, it's time to announce it on the user-oriented site.

You may also have noticed that I got a link to it on OSNews, so at the moment the dev site is probably read more than the main site.

With a week to go, "Create an FTP client" is currently in the lead with 3 votes.

Only two days left and it's tied between "Create an FTP client" and "A month of bug squishing"

Would someone like to volunteer to be lead-developer? I won't (have the time) to do it, and this should be a community project.

Now create the ftp client leads. Will this mean that the month of bug squashing won't happen? Or will we do it anyhow?
Concerning the ftp client it would be nice to outline the tasks

1 - C++ classes wrapping basic functionality from libcurl
- list files from a given server using a given protocol
- download /upload files (maybe we could use this as a groundwork for implementing send files on webster)

(Looking at http://curl.haxx.se/libcurl/c/example.html for example)

2 - create a basic two pane gui

The person(people) who will become responsible for 1 should post some sort of public API so the development of the gui can happen meanwhile Smile

My two cents

If it doesn't win it won't be done this month. "Bug squashing" is a special case, and after a little bit of discussion I've decided I won't put it in any newer polls: it's not exactly a "Project": if people wanted to fix bugs I suspect they'd be doing it already.

When/if someone volunteers to be project lead I'll happilly provide a Wiki for this sort of discussion. If there is no project lead, there will be no Wiki!

We're always squashing bugs, but the idea of a bug squashing month is that we would get help doing it.

Looks like FTP Client has won!

All that's needed now is someone to act as project lead. Anyone?

It would be nice if the people who voted for it would come forward with what they would like to see and what they are willing to do.
