From time to time, a few boot options is needed to get Syllable up and running, but there's currently no complete list, so let's start writing one, right here.
Every time you find one that isn't already on the list, please post it here.

Here's a few to start with.

These are for troubleshooting, roughly in order of most common occurrence:

disable_acpi=true
disable_smp=true
disable_gfx_drivers=true
disable_pci_irq_routing=true
enable_ata_dma=false

This is for improving performance (very slightly) on non-Ati video chips:

disable_agp=false

disable_agp is in the process of getting repurposed, so soon it will have no noticable effect in speed or anything else for a while. It will only become important again after the new rendering stack & new video drivers are in place.

Will that mean that AGP will be enabled by default? Ati chips can't take that currently.

Don't worry, this is a none issue. The agp programming won't kick in unless agpgart is opened. Also, after agp is finished, new drivers based on dri/drm will follow. To be honest, the first agp bridges supported will be the ones from via, also, the first dri/drm cards supported will be ati, s3, and possibly sis. That's because these are the parts that I own. For everything else, I'm really going to have to rely on bug reports.

To anyone trying to capture fast-scrolling debug messages at boot, there is now a parameter

printk_max=n

which makes the kernel stop displaying messages after the first n. You can use trial-and-error with n to stop the debug output at the relevant place. 0.6.6 & later only.
(Note that the kernel keeps running even though the output stops. So if it's in a loop, it will keep looping - take care not to overheat your cpu! Smile )

Wow, now that's useful! That would've saved me tons of headaches during the earlier versions of Syllable. I wonder why no one thought of that earlier... Question

Where the boot options should be inserted? I have hard disk install with grub installed by Syllable.
