As root (haven't tried other users) I cannot save the keyboard settings. It doesn't matter if I actually change any values or not, as soon as I click on "Apply" the window just seems to hang in that state, neither logging out nor shutting down is possible - but starting other programmes doesn't seem to be affected by it.
The only way to shut down the computer is to turn it off forcefully (in my case force-shutdown of the VM)

Cheers,
Stephen

Could you please check the system log right after clicking Apply and post any relevant lines? The log is at /boot/var/log/kernel and the relevant lines will be right at the end and will look something like:

Keyboard::keyboard: Segmentation fault at 0000000
Keyboard::keyboard: EAX = 000000000 : EBX = 0525ef28 : ECX = 043ef098 : EDX = 00000000
...
Keyboard::keyboard libsllable.so.7 +0011be8e -> ZN2os6Looper5_LoopEV + 0000039e
... etc

The shutdown problem is because the system keeps waiting indefinitely for the crashed app to quit (this is a known issue). You can probably safely shutdown/reboot via the command 'shutdown -f' or 'reboot -f' from the terminal, which kills the processes without waiting ('f' for 'force').

Hmm, I think I can reproduce the problem. It only happens when you click 'Apply' without having selected anything in the keyboard layout menu. If you click on a keyboard layout and then click 'Apply', it works ok.

Could you confirm this - that it only crashes if you haven't selected a keyboard layout?

I was going to supply the logfile, but you seem to have found the problem already. I can reproduce this in exactly the same manner:

If I choose a keyboard layout and then switch over to settings, the window does not hang, if I don't choose a keyboard layout first, go to settings and try to "Apply" the window does hang.

Great. Yeah, don't worry about the logfile. Hopefully we'll get it fixed by 0.6.6.

This is fixed in CVS, so should be working properly in 0.6.6.
Thanks for the bugreport!
