Hmm, when running the ./install script from the 20080303 package I get the same 7zip error as mentioned here:

Yes, the md5sum is correct, and yes there are some "sync" entries (with some journaling information) in the kernel log, I'll try and attach those if Webster lets me log into the forum without locking me out of the forum again ;-)

Oh, obviously I'm not allowed to open two forum sessions at once ;-) Here is the log entry:

The development files indeed don't install since the 7zip archive has an invalid header because of the old 7zip bug.
Looks like the build machine is using an old unpatched 7zip. It will need to be updated before the final 0.6.6 build.

If you're desperate to install the dev files, you can open the 7z file in a hex editor and change the first byte from '6' to '7'. Then it should work.

Background: there was a problem with 7zip on Syllable that meant that it created invalid 7zip archives (that could only be read by other broken Syllable 7zips). We fixed the bug recently but the patch wasn't applied to the machine that packaged up the dev files. Thus the 7zip archive in the dev package is unreadable.

I split this thread and moved it to Bugs as a reminder to fix the build machine.

This has been fixed now for some time and the 0.6.6 release was fine.
