In a few words (QEMU VM):

(sin6->sin6_addr.in6_u.u6_addr32))[1] == 0) && (((__const uint32_t *) (sin6->si
n6_addr.in6_u.u6_addr32))[2] == (__extension__ ({ register unsigned int __v, __x
= (0xffff); if (__builtin_constant_p (__x)) __v = ((((__x) & 0xff000000) >> 24)
| (((__x) & 0x00ff0000) >> 8) | (((__x) & 0x0000ff00) << 8) | (((__x) & 0x00000
0ff) << 24)); else __asm__ ("bswap %0" : "=r" (__v) : "0" (__x)); __v; }))))' fa
iled.
Aborted (core dumped)

From http://forum.syllable.org/viewtopic.php?t=1362
I was able to build OpenSSH 5.2p1. I had to add -lcrypt to the LIBS variable in the generated Makefile to get it to link, but otherwise it built without issue.

Once installed, it ran without crashing but was dropping connections right after they started. In order to get it to work I had to use the undocumented -r option so that it would avoid calling socketpair (#defining USE_PIPES doesn't help with this particular secnario). I also had to turn off UsePrivilegeSeparation in the sshd_config file.

After making those changes, sshd was able to properly accept connections and I could log in using interactive password based authentication.

Maybe with the fixes Vanders did on cvs to socketpair it can now be ran without '-r'.
So this should be retested on 0.6.6 with a working socketpair (RC3 onwards), and it seems the recipe need some work to get it to link against libcrypt correctly.
I think the link support is already in the recipe, but we rolled back to OpenSSH 4.7 because 5.0 doesn't work.
