I thought the forum was down for a while. This is why:
$ dig ANY forum.syllable.org

; <<>> DiG 9.6.1 <<>> ANY forum.syllable.org
;; global options: +cmd
;; Got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 13135
;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 2, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 0

;; QUESTION SECTION:
;forum.syllable.org. IN ANY

;; ANSWER SECTION:
forum.syllable.org. 42947 IN A 68.178.254.201
forum.syllable.org. 42946 IN AAAA ::ffff:68.178.254.201
That second line (AAAA) is supposed to contain a reference to an IPv6 address. IPv6 is IPv4 compatible, and prefixing with ::ffff: is one way to pass IPv4 addresses around -within IPv6 socket implementations-. That is, a developer creates software specifically for IPv6-only, and gets support for IPv4 "for free".

The important note here is that ::ffff: translates on the local system to IPv4 within the stack itself. My stack has no IPv4 whatsoever; my network is IPv6-only, and my protocol translator uses DNS-ALG... you know what, let me sum it all up, nobody cares about the explanation:

It's broken. Please don't put broken addresses in DNS records. It's breaking the site for IPv6 visitors. IPv4 addresses in A records, IPv6 addresses in AAAA records, ::ffff:a.b.c.d is an IPv4 address, NOT an IPv6 address.

I understand, but unfortunately, I don't have access to our DNS configuration, so I can't fix it.

I'll move this to Bugs for reference.

Kristian maintains it, but as we lost contact with him, there doesn't seem to be much we can do until he wants to return.

This is fixed now. Around a year ago, we took over DNS management from Kristian, and it is now at a different DNS provider.
