FFMPEG lists internal FLAC audio and Theora video decoders, but even with the external LibTheora library linked in, it won't decode them. This is both in MediaPlayer and in VLC, so the problem doesn't appear to be in our plug-in.

No change, either. Which was to be expected, because FFMPEG only seems to use FLAC and LibTheora for encoding, not decoding.

Perhaps we can include some more codecs on our list and update ffmpeg :p

What exactly is still valid?

FFMPEG's interface is constantly changing, and our media framework hasn't been fully updated for version 0.5. At the time, Kristian was talking about new support that was needed, that is supposedly the cause of the deterioration of our video quality, but I don't remember what it was.

It also needs to be debugged. FLAC is registered, but it isn't played. Ogg isn't registered, but it isn't played through the external libraries.

Shouldn' REGISTER_ENCDEC (FLAC, flac) be REGISTER_DECODER (FLAC, flac);

Afaik encoding of FLAC in ffmpeg requires an external lib and that maybe "messing" things.

Could be. Someone needs to look into it to see what it means exactly. I did some digging years ago, but FFMPEG and the Syllable wrapper around it keep changing.

By the way, Ogg Vorbis and MOV files are also not playing, which still worked before Syllable 0.6.5.

http://read.pudn.com/downloads110/sourcecode/unix_linux/453401/ffmpeg/libavcodec/allcodecs.c__.htm

Or on ffmpeg's git

http://git.videolan.org/?p=ffmpeg.git;a=blob;f=libavcodec/allcodecs.c;h=d18b3f03c78f29bb692ad91c59c4160f0dfdf9c8;hb=HEAD

Flac is defined like we do.
