I find Bugzilla to be a terrible, terrible bug tracker. I say that as an ex-software tester. I can not stand BugZilla. It is an over-engineered piece of feature-creep that was clearly designed by a developer with no idea what a decent bug tracker should do. Eurgh.

We used to use Bugdar, which I quite liked, but was a bit fiddly to do certain things with. The problem is we know we're going to have our own bug tracker at some point and importing the database from an existing system would be very, very difficult.

I see.

Well, that's that then. I have no idea how a good bugtracker should be designed, as I like Bugzilla... but then I've not really used anything else.

Sorry, didn't mean to rant. I just seem to do it reflexively whenever someone mentions Bugzilla :D

Might trac be a suitable alternative? http://trac.edgewall.org/

Also, what happened with the code of the old Syllable bug tracker?

The web master who installed it disappeared, then later our provider disappeared, so everything was lost. As you might imagine, we're not too keen on installing yet another semi-random, non-integrated system with a semi-random administrator on a semi-random provider. As Rohan said earlier, we are planning our own bug tracker. The forum does nicely until then. Like our own new content management system, our own bug tracker will be more than that: it will be a communication and project task management system that will be tightly integrated with the rest of the project.

"If you don't like it, fork"

Bugdar minus stuff you don't like plus communications system, integration and etc = Question

That just occured to me.

That amounts to a rewrite, which is what we are doing.
