I have set up an extra Fossil server as a wiki for Syllable:

http://wiki.syllable.name

It's a place for the community to collect and maintain extra information, particularly documentation.

Anyone can read the wiki, but to edit the content, you can register a user account with the web interface. I would prefer it if people register with their full names. At first, you will get enhanced read access. If you want to edit the wiki, let me know here and I will upgrade your account.

The wiki is running on Syllable Server. Because it's a Fossil repository, instead of using the web interface, you can also clone it to your own computer and use it from the command line:

http://www.fossil-scm.org/index.html/doc/trunk/www/quickstart.wiki

This should also be possible on Syllable Desktop, since Syllable 0.6.7.

I have added a couple of posts. I am planning to take a slow grind approach for all of this. I am mentioning it in case there is something simple that should be included or change format wise before there are more posts. For instance I am not sure about having "HOW TO" or "TIPS" in front of the post I thought it was a good idea but it could be confusing with a lot of posts. On the plus side since the wiki seems to sort the pages alphabetically all the "HOW TO" be together and all the "TIPS" would be together and I could reference the topic in an index page anyway.

Comments?

Looks fine to me. I added a Table of Contents link to the front page.

There are a few places where you have multi-line instructions on the same line. I think the wiki syntax needs an extra blank line to split them.

Upon thinking about it a bit more. If the wiki sorts pages alphabetically perhaps we could use it to organize the pages a little bit. I would like to change it from.

HOW TO Recover from a filesystem crash
HOW TO Work in System Build Mode
Syllable Wiki
TIPS Sync after copying a large amount of files

to

aaa INTRODUCTION Syllable Wiki
FILES Sync after copying a large amount of files
FILE SYSTEM Recover from a filesystem crash
SYSTEM Work in System Build Mode

So hopefully if I add another page like.
FILE SYSTEM AFS is a 64-bit journaled file system

we would get

aaa INTRODUCTION Syllable Wiki
FILES Sync after copying a large amount of files
FILE SYSTEM AFS is a 64-bit journaled file system - (should slot in here)
FILE SYSTEM Recover from a file system crash
SYSTEM Work in System Build Mode

So all pages on FILE SYSTEM would get grouped together. Any pages on FILES would get grouped together. Before a post about, recover from a file system crash was under HOW TO I think it's more logical to place in under FILE SYSTEM. so in one sense the wiki becomes index and the index is the wiki.

I would very much perfer to go that way. I think the wiki would look cleaner and make more sense

aaa INTRODUCTION Syllable Wiki
FILE SYSTEM AFS is a 64-bit journaled file system - (should slot in here)
FILE SYSTEM Recover from a file system crash
FILES Sync after copying a large amount of files
SYSTEM Work in System Build Mode

I think you can just use / characters in page names to simulate folders.

I guess I am missing it - I did not see anything like that in the formatting rules http://wiki.syllable.name/wiki_rules

Could you give an example. Very Happy

I have no forgotten about the multi-line instructions on the same line. Will fix it up once everything is settled. I also don't seem to be able to edit the page title I can edit page contents but not the title

The title is really the file name of the page, so it is not in the content rules, and I don't know if it can be changed after a page is created. I'll look into it.

For sequences of instructions, you can use bulleted lists.

Sorry about the delay; I've been very busy.

As I thought, the name of a wiki page can't be changed. You'd have to delete the page by making it empty, and then move the content into a new page.

I tested that slashes are allowed in page names, so you can use the usual notation for folders, for example:

HOW TO/Write a wiki page

I would advise to mimic the structure of the existing Syllable web sites, for example:

Desktop/Overview
Server/Overview
