| I don't understand why the IRC channel was abandoned in favor of this. |

It was not abandoned; it was never populated. And AltME has been running for almost as long; five years or so. Anyway, if you want to see activity on IRC, then make some! And how can you compare AltME and IRC when you've never been on AltME? |

| Thing is, from everything I've read about it, I just can't find any benefit over IRC. I want to keep up on developer chatter, but I'm not running a random proprietary program just to idle in one channel. Does someone closely involved with Syllable project develop for that software or something? Just trying to understand.. |

The fact that AltME is persistent and IRC is not is one obvious difference I.e. if I log off of AltME and come back later I'll still get all the messages that were sent while I was logged off.
AltME isn't a chat client, it's a groupware client. You can store files, manage lists of tasks and share calendars as well, which is why we use it.
Yes, the downside is that we have to run a closed, proprietary client to access the worlds, but it's light enough that it can run well under a lightweight Linux under Qemu. I think ReactOS works too.
The long-term plan is to get REBOL running on Syllable, complete with REBOL/View, and then the client will run native. The very-long-term plan have our own groupware client . |

The official AltMe client seems to be distributed as an executable prepared by REBOL/Encap. Is there a way to extract the actual REBOL program from an Encap executable for use with the standard REBOL interpreter? If not, is there another method we'll be able t use to get AltMe running in the Syllable build of REBOL (once there is a Syllable build of REBOL of course)? Or is the plan to add support for opening Encap executables in Orca? |

No, it's a closed app.
The plan is to port REBOL 3 to Syllable Desktop and then wait for the new R3 version of AltME. |

| Well, you're already in there. Did you loose your password? Do you still have the same email address? I can send you a new password, then. |
